hurricane mitigation Hurricane Mitigation

In 2017, Hurricane Irma caused devastating damage throughout the Florida Keys. Poorly constructed buildings and those noncompliant with current building codes seemed to have suffered the worst. We have all learned a great deal from this major disaster and hope we never have to experience that again. Although easier said than done, it is time to rebuild.

Having suffered severe damages ourselves, Barracuda Builders is ready to help you fortify your structure so you’re ready for the next hurricane and whatever else life may throw our way.

Fortify Your Home to Withstand 225 mph Gusts

According to current local building codes, building materials are required to withstand 180 mph sustained gusts for 3 seconds. As we experienced with Hurricane Irma, storms are getting stronger and we are being proactive about it.

The things we value the most should last the longest! Barracuda Builders will work closely with an engineering team to strengthen your home and help make your life a whole lot easier next time a hurricane comes around.

James Hardie Products

Vinyl products are out and Hardie products are in! In the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, we noticed a lot of vinyl products everywhere and anywhere except where they were supposed to be.

James Hardie has designed fiber cement products with excellent performance and durability. They have been engineered to not only withstand extreme scenarios, such as hurricanes, but are also made to protect homes from heat, humidity, termites, and UV rays.

Having done our research, we highly recommend upgrading your home’s siding, soffit, and fascia. Proper installation is key! Barracuda Builders has worked with and will continue to use Hardie products for years to come.

Impact Windows and Doors

Instead of tinkering with hurricane shutters or heavy plywood, why not more effectively address the problem and confidently protect your home or business? Installing impact windows and doors comes with many benefits. They are built to withstand enormous amounts of pressure and improve energy efficiency–reducing your energy costs and saving our natural resources–and many insurance companies even offer a premium discount!

Barracuda Builders will make this upgrade easy. We’ll come visit and measure all the windows and doors for you. We’ll then work closely with an engineer to calculate the required design pressures for each window and door. Once we have this information, we competitively shop for the best deal and get to work!
